| Zusammenfassung | European Space Agency’s FORUM mission will provide the first spectral measurements of Earth’s outgoing far-infrared radiation, a critical component of Earth’s radiation budget. Validating these data with Fiducial Reference Measurements (FRMs) is particularly challenging because FORUM has a stringent absolute accuracy requirement of 0.1 K (k = 3). FRMs are SI-traceable, fully characterized reference in-situ measurements obtained from ground, airborne or sea-borne platforms. This study presents an FRM concept that combines in-situ observations with radiative transfer modelling to assess the feasibility of validating FORUM measurements. A key aspect of this concept is a high-precision radiometer designed at PTB to meet FORUM’s uncertainty requirements. It is based on a carbon-nanotube electrical substitution bolometer developed at NIST and LASP. |
