Zusammenfassung Motivation: Conventional MRI remains costly, complex and inaccessible in many regions. Goals: Develop an open-source, validated low-field MRI system to democratize MRI. Approach: A portable 50 mT head scanner was built using open-source hardware and software to conduct quantitative imaging experiments. Full system documentation and testing procedures were included to facilitate replication and maintenance by other sites.  Results: The system achieved 2 mm isotropic resolution and accurate T quantification with minor artifacts, featuring a modular open-source design and material costs of less than 50 k€ depending on the particular configuration.
