| Zusammenfassung | This paper describes possible changes of the IPTS-68 because measurements have shown that the IPTS-68 differs significantly from the thermodynamic temperature scale. The most important aspects of a future IPTS have been settled at the 13th session of the Comité Consultatif de Thérmometrie in 1980. The main differences will be the replacement of the thermocouple as interpolation instrument by a high-temperature performance of a platinum resistance thermometer and the extension of the scale down to 0.5 K. In the temperature range of the IPTS-68 the new scale is based on metal freezing points, triple points and transition points of solid phases. The assigned temperatures of the fixed points will be in good agreement with the thermodynamic temperature scale. In the range from 0.5 K to 14 K the conditions for a new scale can more easily be fulfilled due to the work which led to the development of the EPT-76 (Echelle Provisoire de Température de 1976 entre 0.5 K et 30 K.) Many important investigations still have to be carried out. The next two years are crucial to the possibility of a new IPTS in 1987. |
