| Zusammenfassung | Neutron detectors are frequently calibrated by “monoenergetic” standardized neutron fluxes which are always distorted by some non-monoenergetic neutron background. The latter could be accounted for by a more complicated calibration procedure requiring the knowledge of the complete background neutron energy spectra at the different “monoenergetic” calibration energies. Therefore the flux of neutron background was calculated for the experimental hall (dimensions: 30 m x 25 m x 14 m high; target: 6.25 m above ground; thick concrete walls and ceiling) of a pulsed accelerator facility now under construction. The energy distribution as well as the time distribution of the neutron background as a function of the distance between the target and the detector are given. Furthermore, the contributions of the target construction and a gridded aluminium platform, 1.75 m below the target and the detector, were calculated. The results show, that the main contribution of fast neutron background at smaller target-detector distances originates in the target, walls the influence of the concrete shielding walls is not so serious. |
