| Zusammenfassung | The digital transformation brings significant and revolutionary changes to the economy, industry, and society. This impacts and poses various challenges to the quality infrastructure (QI), as digital communication, distributed measurement systems, algorithms, and software need to be effectively addressed while the fundamental processes of QI are digitally transformed. In this chapter, we outline some of the basic elements of the digital transformation in metrology and their impact on the quality infrastructure. We discuss how the QI can help to achieve and maintain trust and confidence in data and algorithms, the application of metrological principles in cyber-physical systems, and the more general developments toward a digital-first QI. Special focus is given to machine-readable metadata, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) methods, as well as the role of calibration in the Internet of Things (IoT). |
