| Zusammenfassung | Magnetoencephalography (MEG) with optically pumped magnetometers (OPM) promises to yield more information about brain activity and to allow close-to-natural movements of participants or patients. The currently most utilized OPMs have the drawback of a limited linear dynamic range complicating their usage in existing magnetically shielded environments. Therefore, many approaches for improved shielding have been realized usually involving complicated hardware. Here a simple approach based on existing infrastructure is presented, where an existing room with two layers of mu-metal has triple-axis active shielding coils on the outside. This setup allows OPM-MEG recordings and source localization without compromising OPM signal linearity, only large movements of participants are not allowed as they generate nonlinear signal dynamics due to field gradients typical for this type of room. |
