| Zusammenfassung | Inner-shell processes may be of fundamental simplicity: the electrostatic potential in the vicinity of an atomic nucleus is Coulomb-like and has considerable strength, thus the properties of inner-shell electrons are governed by a hydrogenic character and many external perturbations are comparatively weak, allowing a treatment in a first-order approach. Basic processes have been identified and investigated several decades ago. In recent years much progress has occurred in a more comprehensive and more detailed understanding of excitation and ionization processes. For example, developments of instruments and the availability of new experimental devices resulted in total cross-section values of high accuracy; advances in both experiment and theoretical analysis of the measuring process have led to new types of investigations, such as, for example, studies of differential cross sections and angular shapes of collision-induced vacancies. The more detailed experiments provide a more crucial test of theoretical models and specific assumptions of them. In this way deviations from predictions by perturbative theories have been observed that partly bear the signature of coherence and correlation effects. |
