| Zusammenfassung | ATEX and IECEx are acronyms for different topics but dealing with the same type of equipment: explosion protected electrical and non-electrical (mechanical) equipment, called "Ex Equipment". ATEX is a legal system for the market access within the European Union, based on the Directive 2014/34/EU "Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)". IECEx is the "International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres (IECEx System)", a voluntary system to show conformity of equipment with standards produced by IEC TC 31 "Equipment for explosive atmospheres". This talk will describe the difference and similarities between ATEX and IECEx certificates. The base for both certifications are the standard series of the IEC 60079 and ISO 80079 and both systems can result in a certificate for the conformity of the Ex Equipment and for the conformity of the production process of that Ex Equipment. The main issue of the ATEX Directive is to harmonize the market access of Ex Equipment within the European Union. An IECEx Certificate of Conformity (CoC) can be used as market access only if this is allowed by individual national rules. But this talk will explain also the chances for the international market and the benefits for manufacturers by having an IECEx CoC for mechanical or combined equipment such as pumps. |
