Zusammenfassung In the aftermath of a nuclear or radiological event, and especially in an emergency situation, reliable data on dose rates and contamination levels are of key importance for any governmental decision on appropriate countermeasures. Nuclear accidents could affect thousands of people and may have severe economical and sociological consequences. In order to project the health and life of first responders in emergency situations, radiological data are preferably collected remotely by detectors carried by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The joint research project 16ENV04 "Preparedness" (carried out by a consortium of 17 European institutions) which started its work in August 2017, develops novel radiological detector systems based on UAVs for the determination of dose rates and ground contamination levels as well as transportable air-samplers for the measurement of radioactive nuclide concentrations in air, both relevant in the early phase of a nuclear or radiological emergency. In addition, the metrological relevance of crowd-sourced dose rate data, collected by laypersons, is investigated. Finally, the feasibility of long-term monitoring of contaminated areas using passive dosimetry systems is studied. The main objectives of the Preparedness project are summarized in the following, and some of the first results are presented.
