Zusammenfassung Service equipment in residential and office buildings can be annoying if it produces noise. To avoid noise, especially structure-born sound noise, a prediction and calculation of sound power injected into the structure is necessary. Standard DIN EN 12354-5:2009 only provides little information regarding the characterization of a structure-born sound source. Especially for light weight structures, when the mobilities of source and receiver could match, a practical method for the power prediction is missing. This paper focuses on the source characterization using the "two-stage method" (TSM). Experiments have shown that this comparatively simple method is suited for a good characterization. This allows a good structure-borne sound power prediction in receivers. The specific source parameters free velocity, blocked force and source impedance of different sources were measured in different ways: (1) using TSM, (2) the source is installed on a very light reception plate, (3) source completely decoupled. With these source parameters, structure-borne sound power predictions were done for different reception plates and compared with measurements. Furthermore, the assessment of the uncertainties of the prediction equation was estimated by using the propagation of uncertainties. The results are compared with the uncertainties provided by the standard DIN EN 12354-5.
