| Zusammenfassung | Experimental nanodosimetry aims at establishing a new concept of radiation quality that builds on measurable characteristics of the particle track structure. Three different types of nanodosimeters have been developed to date which vary in detected particle type, operating gas and size of the simulated nanometric target in biological matter. These devices measure the frequency distribution of ionization cluster size, i.e. of the number of ionizations produced in a specified target volume by single ion tracks. Within the European Joint Research Project “BioQuaRT” (Biologically Weighted Quantities in Radiotherapy) and the Italian project MITRA (MIcrodosimetry and TRAck structure), funded by INFN, experiments have been carried out at the Tandem accelerator facility of LNL in which the same radiation quality of carbon ion beams was measured with the PTB Ion Counter and the LNL StarTrack Counter. |
