| Zusammenfassung | Conversion-losses (C.L.) of a mixer can be used to compare the power level at its RF and IF ports. This is an important parameter to design and characterize systems which need up-converting and down-converting processes. Classic methods to measure the C.L. usually need separate and independent absolute power-measurements at any port of the mixer. However, absolute power cannot be measured with a good accuracy for the higher frequencies and especially in m-wave domain because of non-available standards and the source mismatch problems. A new method is proposed for reciprocal mixers which needs relative RF power measurement, only. A vector network analyzer (VNA) is used to feed and measure the RF port. Therefore, the C.L. can be evaluated for mm-wave mixers by using a suitable VNA and its frequency-extenders up to 500 GHz. The method and the setup are described and the results are presented for two commercial mixers: one in the microwave range and the other in the mm-wave domain. |
