| Zusammenfassung | Optical imaging of breast cancer – the most frequent malignancy in women in developed countries – has been investigated with a great variety of approaches. Scanning designs with different geometries, different coupling mechanisms, and different laser sources have been used. Some systems employ only one wavelength, while others use multiple wavelengths. Most approaches were set up to measure absorption, and others additionally for scattering or fluorescence. Various tissue components have been measured as intrinsic contrast agents: total hemoglobin, deoxy- and oxyhemoglobin, fat, and water. In addition, there have been some studies using extrinsic contrast agents to enhance contrast between benign and malignant structures. |
