| Zusammenfassung | Everyday life can today scarcely be imagined without time measurement. At the same time, high-level metrology of time and frequency is also vital to the success of many fields of science and technology. Different applications will be covered in this contribution. Time and frequency metrology comprises as an important part the comparison of distant clocks, and two satellite-based techniques are presented. It will be shown how these techniques are employed in the task of realizing a worldwide reference time scale, Coordinated Universal Time, and in scientific experiments aiming at probing the validity of fundamental physical laws. Distribution of time-of-day information for the common public is also considered a demanding application: Even if the accuracy is less of a problem, the reliability and the availability count. |
