| Zusammenfassung | The aim of this study was to determine the "warm-up" time needed for the temperature in human ear canals (EC) to stabilize upon occlusion by an eartip. The EC temperature of twelve healthy test subjects was measured over a period of 15 minutes using a fiber-optic probe. The initial temperature was about 30-33 °C, which increased during the warm-up time to an average equilibrium temperature of 36.3 °C. The warm-up times varied from one to seven minutes, depending on the outdoor ambient temperature the test ears were exposed to before the measurements. Analytical calculations of the acoustic input impedances of an average cylindrical EC model revealed no considerable differences between the initial and the equilibrium temperature (except near the quarter-wave frequency). These findings suggest that in most practical applications, the eff ect of temperature variation during the warm-up time can be considered negligible. |
