| Zusammenfassung | The chapter presents a discussion on radiometric characterization of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) sources. In the field of VUV radiation physics, a major objective is the study of the interaction of VUV radiation with matter or the investigation of VUV radiation emitted by matter in the course of other interaction processes. In both cases, quantitative measurements of the VUV radiation are generally required. There are fundamentally two different ways to determine the radiometric properties, they are as follows: (1) To measure the radiometric property with an absolute detector standard); and (2) to compare the radiometric property of the source under investigation with another source of known radiometric properties utilizing a spectrometer with sufficient spectral resolving power. Method 2 is employed for characterizing radiometric source properties. Application of method 2 requires the availability of suitable VUV radiometric source standards. At the highest level, there is the primary standard. The classical primary standard in the field of radiometry is the blackbody radiator. Its spectral radiation emission is determined by Planck's radiation law, and is a function of the temperature T and wavelength λ only. |
