| Zusammenfassung | Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are widely installed in order to provide a means of timely and proper resuscitation in incidents of cardiac arrest. The rhythm detection algorithms in AEDs need a special validation if they are to be applied in children aged 0-8 years because basic rhythm parameters are different in this patient group compared to adults. Currently, we are constructing for that purpose a pediatric ECG database in order to test rhythm detection algorithms and the subsequent AED shock decisions on a sufficient number of normal and pathological ECGs. In order to characterize the ECGs in the database we applied a number of basic rhythm classificators. Pediatric ECGs suffer from higher noise levels than that of adults, especially motion artifacts are common. For that reason, rhythm descriptors have to be simple and robust. R peaks were detected by finding the local maxima of the output of a bandpass wavelet filter. The occurrence of sinus arrhythmia and extrasystoles was automatically evidenced by threshold methods working on the tachogram. As a result, the database contains now automatically annotated rhythm information and beat classifications. From this, a statistical overview of the rhythm variability represented in the database can be obtained. Special hard cases that might pose a problem for AED algorithms can be selected and used for AED testing. |
