| Zusammenfassung | The established physiological effects of EMF exposure on MRI staff and patients are all related to internal field quantities. The fundamental problems are a) to determine those internal fields reliably, and b) to know their physiological consequences. As measurements inside the body are mostly (but not always) impossible, quantitative and validated simulations are of primary importance to accomplish the first task (a). The second step (b) will be an ongoing subject of biomedical research for many years to come. It appears that it is the high uncertainty of both steps combined which is the primary driving force towards restrictive regulatory limits. |
