Zusammenfassung We have developed a measuring and data evaluation technique, ready to monitor the motility of a marker in the gastrointestinal tract during any period of digestion. It provides a temporal resolution in the millisecond range and a spatial resolution in the submillimeter ränge, whereas the absolute uncertainty of the localization is estimated to be below 5 mm. To our knowledge, this performance is not met by any other radiologic technique which is established in gastroenterologic diagnostics. What remains to be explored is the extent to which motions of the marker reflect pathologic and nonpathologic behavior of gastrointestinal motility. With this additional knowledge, the diagnostic benefit of the biomagnetic approach for gastroenterology can be assessed.
