| Zusammenfassung | The study of the magnetic field of stimulated human peripheral nerves is of considerable theoretical, experimental, and clinical interest. The magnetic field arises from action currents generated in the nerves and can be calculated by means of appropriate current source modeis. The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the effects of essential geometrical source parameters with a focus on the longitudinal extension and the curvature of the current source. The nerve activity is represented by a line source configuration of elementary shape, which can be studied analytically. In addition to the magnetic field the corresponding electric potential is taken into account. A comparative multipole source analysis of the electric potential and the magnetic field is performed to evaluate the Information content of both field types generated by the same current source. |
