| Zusammenfassung | This paper deals with an estimation of the uncertainty of CMM measurements based upon prior knowledge. A new system has been developed giving an unexperienced user of CMMs a first, qualified estimate as to the obtainable uncertainty for a given measurement task. The system consists of a database holding information on uncertainties of different measuring tasks obtained on a variety of CMMs. To obtain an estimation of the uncertainty of a specific measurement task on a specific CMM both the CMM and the task have to be characterised by the user. A search is then performed in the database allowing for a calculation of correlation between the described problem and the records in the database. The estimate of the uncertainty of the problem is finally calculated as weighed mean value of the uncertainties picked in the search in the database. The system has in its first generation only been tested on dimensional measurements and good results were obtained compared to the two recommended methods for uncertainty assessment. Traceability of the method can be achieved if it is proven that the CMMs used to collect the knowledge in the database and the CMM under investigation have similar error patterns. This proof must be based upon calibrated artefacts like ball plates, balls etc. |
