| Zusammenfassung | At present, sound insulation characteristics of buildings or building elements are described both in terms of octave band and third-octave band spectra. From these, so-called single-number quantities are derived as a means of simple evaluation of the spectra. On the occasion of the revision of ISO 717 - where the procedures of single-numbering are described - the question arose whether to keep both frequency resolutions, and, if yes, how to make them compatible. In this paper, the exact transition from third-octave band insulation values to the corresponding octave band values is investigated and compared with the practical measurement situation. Furthermore, the scatter of the resulting single-numbers caused by the specification of reference curves in terms of octave and third-octave band values, respectively, is demonstrated. Finally, a proposal from a new measurement standard is presented which could solve the problems of the two competing rating systems. |
