| Zusammenfassung | The history of HTS SQUID develoment seems to follow the pattem of the LTS SQUID evolution. Beginning with bulk devices, followed by a period of an rf SQUID dominance and thin film dc SQUIDs with an ultra small SQUID loop to demonstrate "a magnetic flux resolution better than that of commercially available SQUIDs", and gradually leading to a kind of standard dc SQUID design with integrated input coil. il. Even the rich zoo of HTS weak link types resembles the LTS past and accordingly, it is almost certain that as soon as a reliable and reproducible HTS tunnel junctions is available then the latter will be the weak link type of the future. Since the field of HTS SQUID development is still rapidly evolving we refrained from presenting an exhaustive list of HTS SQUID papers. An overview may be found in the proceedings of topical conferences (i. e. SQUID '91 [1], ASC'92 [2], and probably ISEC '93 [3] etc.). Anyhow, with the already demonstrated magnetic field resolution of (100 fT/Hz a sufficient sensitivity for most applications is at hand. Also the 1/f noise problem is under control if the bias reversal technique is utilized. However, it would be preferable to have junctions with lower intrinsic 1/f noise disposable to be able to use simpler read-out dectronics. Now, at this stage, it has to be proven that HTS SQUID applications with substantial market potential really exist in order to satisfy at least some of the expectations that have been stirred up after the discovery of high-Tc superconductivity. We hope that this overview stimulates some innovative ideas among the readership just to support this task.
