Zusammenfassung High-temperature furnaces have become important tools in modern measurement technology, they are used as blackbody radiators for the realization of spectral radiance and to operate temperature fixed-points for the realization of the temperature scale in practical thermometry over a wide temperature range. In addition to radiation thermometers, which measure the average temperature of a small area, thermal imagers are used at high temperatures for a precise measurement of a two dimensional temperature distribution. The calibration of a thermal imager requires a wide aperture radiator. This paper describes the development and characterisation of a black-body radiator for temperatures up to 3000 °C. The high-temperature furnace is equipped with an up to 50 mm wide aperture and a special cavity-design, which allows to optimize the temperature homogeneity along the furnace axis. The optimisation of the furnace cavity and operational characterisation of the furnace has been supported by finite element simulations.
