| Zusammenfassung | Distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) provide an attractive method to assess the cochlear function, especially for non-cooperative persons (e.g. babies). These emissions are commonly evoked with two pure tones presented by miniature loudspeakers embedded in a DPOAE probe. However, due to standing waves at the resonance frequencies of the ear canal, considerable calibration errors arise that might even result in suppressing the DPOAE. In this study, a combined stimulation is introduced, with one tone presented by a probe loudspeaker and the other by a bone vibrator placed on the mastoid of the test subject. This procedure was investigated in a pilot study and produced measurable DPOAEs. The applicability as well as the practical limitations of this combined stimulation are discussed. |
