| Zusammenfassung | In recent years, wireless communication has become an essential part of our day-to-day life. While conventional WLAN and WPAN concepts operate at lower GHz frequencies, future short-range indoor wireless communication systems might require much higher carrier frequencies in the THz regime to satisfy the increasing demand of bandwidth. This paper reports on our recent work in the field of propagation modelling for THz communications as well as on first transmissions at 300 GHz. Analytical models of bound-media propagation phenomena, such as scattering at surfaces or multiple reflections from stratified structures, have been developed and verified by measurements. Additional ray-tracing simulations discuss the influence of these propagation effects on the wireless link. The demonstration of an analogue TV signal transmission over a distance of 22 m, serves as a proof of principle and shows the feasibility of data transmission at THz frequencies. In addition, flexible, omnidirectional dielectric mirrors based on polymeric compounds, which could play a key role in THz communication systems, are presented. |
