| Zusammenfassung | Coordinate measuring machines (CMM) are suited for gear measurements. This applies above all to CNC-controlled gear measuring devices which - in this contribution - are regarded as a variant of the CMM. The contribution explains the most important aspects of measurements of cylindrical gears with involute profile on CMMs. In addition, the approaches presented are basically also valid for the measurement of bevel gears, splines, worms and other related rotationally symmetrical specimens. In gear metrology, the classical mechanical gear measuring instruments have meanwhile been replaced almost unchanged. Contrary to the general tendency to determine 3D measuring objects as a whole, the gear is measured only in some apparently representative levels. The reasons for this are manifold. The measuring sequences, for example, but also the evaluation procedures have proved an established their worth over decades. They are described worldwide in standards and guidelines and are the object of today's doctrine. Moreover, manufacturing processes are relialy monitored and controlled on the basis of the experience gained. Nevertheless, modern gear measuring technique inexorably tends towards a complete integration into coordinate metrology. The elaboration and revision of standards and guidelines is to an ever increasing extent based on the procedures, models and sorftware of coordinate metrology. As long as the gear maintains its significance for society, it will, however, always occupy a demanding position due to its complexity within the scope of coordinate metrology. |
