Zusammenfassung Resistance thermometers with a negative temperature coefficient, so-called NTC sensors, are widely used as secondary thermometers. They are easy in use, and their characteristic may be stable within a few millikelvin after repeated cool-downs. Nevertheless, temperature measurements with NTC sensors can be largely in error due to different reasons. Problems are often caused by an insufficient thermal contact between the sensor element and the measuring object. The most obvious indication of such problems is the saturation of the resistance values at low temperatures. We have performed measurements which allow to deduce the order of magnitude of the internal thermal resistances of the investigated NTCs as a basis for an estimation of static temperature-measurement errors under different conditions. The performed investigations illustrate the method and the necessary efforts for performing such estimations reliably.
