Zusammenfassung Since several years, the CCT Working Group number 3 (WG3) has the responsibility to propose a method to estimate the uncertainties in the field of temperature measurements. This Working Group has drawn up a document which is the subject of this article. This paper summarises the uncertainties affecting the realisation of ITS-90 in the SPRT sub-ranges between the triple point of argon (83.8058 K) and the freezing point of silver (961.78 °C) and it is limited to the long stem SPRTs. The primary purpose of the paper is to provide users with a list of all key sources of uncertainty, the means to assess and combine the uncertainties. A secondary purpose is to provide a check list that enables harmonisation of the assessment of calibration and measurement capabilities as defined under the BIPM's arrangement for the mutual recognition of national measurement institutes (MRA). Accordingly, the paper provides a definition of each uncertainty term, a brief description of the effect, identifies key references in the literature that discuss, model or evaluate the effect and propagation laws so that the uncertainties may be combined. Effects considered include factors affecting the realisation of the fixed points, thermal effects associated with the measurement of the temperature of the fixed point, instrumental effects relating to the measurement of the SPRT resistance, and factors arising from the behaviour of the SPRTs. The treatment is consistent with the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement.
