Zusammenfassung Increasing demand for accurate temperature measurements at temperatures above 1085 °C has initiated considerable effort in improving the International Temperature Scale (ITS-90) in the high temperature range. A promising practical solution for higher accuracy may be the application of novel metal-carbon eutectic fixed-point cells, whose properties are currently under detailed investigation worldwide. In Europe, investigations in this area are co-ordinated within the EU founded project "Novel high temperature metal-carbon eutectic fixed-points for radiation thermometry, radiometry, and thermocouples" (Acronym HIMERT). Partners in this project are the NPL, the BNM-INM, the BNM-LNE, the PTB, the University of Valladolid, and the industrial companies Thermocoax and Land IR. Essential for the implementation of eutectic fixed-points in a future temperature scale is the accurate determination of their phase transition temperatures. Within the HIMERT project PTB is in charge of this workpackage. Due to its good performance in the high temperature range and the long experience of PTB with this instrument the linear pyrometer LP3 has been chosen for this task. However, a significant drift of the signal of the linear pyrometer LP3 has been observed during measurements of high temperature eutectic fixed-point phase transitions. The drift in signal could be attributed to a heating up of the interference layers of the applied wavelength filter. The paper presents a detailed investigation of this effect using a variable high temperature blackbody as a stable reference source. A solution to the problem is demonstrated by applying a new type of interference filter in the radiation thermometer. It is shown that the application of the new interference filters yields a significant reduction of the thermal drift.
