| Zusammenfassung | Non-destructive assay of radioactive waste packages by passive and active non-destructive neutron assay generally suffers from drum specific measurement bias caused by matrix and source distribution effects. Minimisation of possible bias is achieved by supplementing the conventional measurements with additional measurement data on waste matrix properties, the source distribution in the waste package and the neutron emission type e.g. spontaneous fission and/or (α,n)-reactions. To interpret this data appropriate procedures and interpretation models are necessary and are used to compute corrections to the conventional analysis. The models and algorithms to make the corrections in passive neutron assay are discussed. The use of a linear accelerator as a combined photon and neutron interrogation source has been investigated and successfully tested. The combined interrogation allows to separate the signals of fissile and fertile material, respectively. Neutron interrogation based on the principle of energy discrimination using a 7Li(p,n)7Be neutron source has been investigated. Optimisation of this technique led to the quantification of fissile material with almost no sensitivity for radial source distribution effects. |
