| Zusammenfassung | The International Basic Safety Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources have endorsed the use of operational quantities for monitoring purposes, in particular the personal dose equivalent, Hp(10), to be used in individual dosimetry. In view of the technical difficulties associated with the introduction of the new operational quantities, it is important that the Agency assists Member States in their provision of appropriate dosimetry. Therefore, a Co-ordinated Research Programme 1996-1999 was performed on intercomparison for individual monitoring focusing in IAEA Member States in Eastern Europe and based on the personal dose equivalent, Hp(10). The three phases of the intercomparison are: the preparatory phase including a workshop, the "type-test" intercomparison and the "simulated workplace field" intercomparison. Details of the phases are given. At the beginning of the intercomparison it turned out that the operational quantity Hp(10) was not yet introduced in home countries of the participants. It was recognized that there is still a deficit in international standards to ensure results accurate enough for the routine of individual occupational monitoring. In the second phase, the type-test intercomparison, the participants gained information about the energy and angular response of their dosimeters with respect to Hp(10) and could recalibrate their dosimetry systems by means of this knowledge. The results of the intercomparison demonstrated that many of the dosimetry systems are now able to measure Hp(10). It was amazing how many results of the third phase of the intercomparison, the "Simulated Workplace Field" Intercomparison, are much closer to the conventionally true values than one would expect from the type-test intercomparison before. As a previous intercomparisons of the IAEA, so-called trumpet curves were used to judge whether the results were accurate enough for routine monitoring. |
