| Zusammenfassung | In this paper we present in-flight measurements obtained with a high power LDA which makes use of the heterodyne shifting concept to unite the power of two 1 Watt semiconductor lasers. The LDA operates in backward scattering mode. A working distance of 0.3 m was realized, allowing measurements below the fuselage of the test aircraft. Signals with a signal to noise ratio better than 10 dB were acquired, processed on-line using spectral analysis, and stored with rates exceeding 10 Hz. A good correlation of the airspeed measured by LDA and that measured using a Pitot probe could be demonstrated. We also discuss how the data rate theoretically depends on the measuring volume layout, and find that for typical particle size distributions found in the atmosphere best results should be obtained when the smallest particles detected by the LDA are of a size comparable to the wavelength used. |
