Zusammenfassung In the German standard DIN 6809-4 for the determination of absorbed dose to water in the region of low-energy X-rays it is recommended to use exclusively flat parallel-plate chambers which are embedded in the surface (front face) of a PMMA phantom. This equipment has to be calibrated in such a way, that it indicates the absorbed dose to water at the surface of a water phantom positioned in the radiation field instead of the PMMA phantom with the embedded ionization chamber. The range of generating potentials for low energy X-rays is restricted to 100 kV as the upper limit in the DIN standard. However, there is some need in practice to extend this range up to 150 kV. But this is only possible, if the energy dependence of the response of a therapy level dosemeter complies with the performance requirements within the rated range. It is shown that an ionization chamber of the type PTW 23342, embedded in a PMMA phantom, fulfils the requirements for the energy dependence of the response in a rated range of 10 kV to 150 kV generating potential.
