| Zusammenfassung | The transverse sensitivity of a commercial servo accelerometer is investigated theoretically and experimentally. For the theoretical investigation, we applied linear control theory and finite-element method (FEM) analysis. Only the specifications and technical description that are available to users from the manufacturer are used in the theoretical investigation and the calculation. The direction dependency of transverse sensitivity is obtained as a figure “8” shape from the theoretical investigation. Experimental confirmation is obtained using the newly developed multicomponent measurement system of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). The experimental result agrees well with the theoretical investigation however, in some conditions, the characteristic of transverse sensitivity is also dependent on the measurand acting in Z direction simultaneously. This result can only be obtained by multicomponent measurement system experimentally. The method proposed here can be also applied for semiconductor accelerometers testing more efficiently, as those accelerometers have non homogeneous structures and may have complex characteristics in their transverse sensitivity. |
