| Zusammenfassung | Irreversible changes of the Pd thermoelement of Pt/Pd thermocouples which might cause complete failure of the thermocouple were observed at PTB on different routinely used Pt/Pd thermocouples. Several investigations using metallographic slices, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) were performend to examine structural changes of palladium wires exposed to temperatures up to about 1200 °C. The results of these investigations and conclusions for reducing the risk of failure of Pt/Pd thermocouples are presented. |
