| Zusammenfassung | Extraction of data from the surface of a workpiece by a stylus instrument and its subsequent reconstruction are examples of the dual basic operations of morphological filters, i.e. dilation and erosion. The sphere usually used in this connection is an example of the so-called structuring element of the morphological operations. Mutually dual morphological operations always have a structuring element of same shape and size. Under certain conditions, morphological operations are even mutually inverse, i.e. if performed successively, the changes introduced by the first operation will be reversed vy the second one, yielding perfect reconstruction. If a sphere serves as structuring element, perfect reconstruction becomes possibble if the local curvature of the surface under consideration is limited and the morphological sampling theorem is observed. Since morphological filters are in conformity with the hull principle, data used to establish datums or to analyze fit problems should exclusively be processsed by such filters. Besides, post-processing of data obtained by contact stylus instruments, morphological filters are similarly suitable in the case of e.g. atomic force microscopy. |
