| Zusammenfassung | Peak shift is an important quality indicator since it strongly influences window margin and diskette interchange. Designers of duplication and computer controllers must consider the peak shift of both the diskette and the drive when generating the write precompensation table. This table enhances interchange by partially cancelling the effects of peak shift during the write operation. A reduction in amplitude results from the same interactions of individual bits at very high bit densities which cause peak shift. This amplitude effect is known as resolution. Measurements of peak shift and resolution were conducted over a wide range of values to demonstrate their relationship. Results also provide a means of control for peak shift when standards exist only for resolution, such as for 130 mm diskettes. Finally, the tests confirm the compatibility of resolution and peak shift limits in various standards and specifications. |
