Zusammenfassung Due to the wave behavior of the B1 field inside a body sized object at B0 fields ≥ 3T a pronounced asymmetry exists between the clockwise and counter-clockwise rotating transversal B1 field components causing a considerable imbalance between the transmitting and receiving sensitivities of a NMR coil. In general, this unwanted artifact affects the absolute calibration of MR spectra based on the principle of reciprocity. To address this issue MR based B1 field measurements in phantoms and in vivo at 3T and FDTD calculations for 3T and 1.5T were performed. In applications in vivo employing a 15 cm diameter surface coil errors of the amplitude calibration constant of up to 80% were observed affecting clinical high field MRS considerably.
